First, our “Explore” series of events brought you around Auckland city on a tour of the city’s heritage. Next, the series brought you on a hike to teach you of New Zealand’s natural history.

Our third and final installment of the year is a trip to find out more about the Maori and Volcanic history of New Zealand; a cultural trip to Whakarewarewa: The Living Thermal Village, Rotorua.

Set amidst a landscape of erupting geysers, hot thermal springs and bubbling mud pools, is the Maori village of Whakarewarewa. Experience the unique lifestyle of the Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao people in a natural, Maori village setting. View bubbling mud pools and mineral springs where people have bathed for generations. Then from the viewing platform, see the awesome power of the ‘Pohutu’ and ‘Prince of Wales Feathers’ geysers. Experience the songs and rhythms of cultural performances and cultural demonstrations, have fun and become part of a living Maori Village.
