Economic, societal and environmental impact, or the ‘non-academic’ impact of research, is becoming increasingly important to Australasia’s research ecosystem. In New Zealand in mid-2017 the Ministry of Business Innovation & Employment kick-started a national dialogue by publishing the discussion paper ‘The Impact of Science’ to begin to define impact and the implications of an impact agenda for the science system. Meanwhile, Australia have launched a national impact assessment alongside Excellence in Research for Australia 2018. The University of Auckland recently appointed its first ever Research Impact Manager, Dr Faith Welch, to work as part of the Office of Research Strategy and Integrity, with a view to developing a University Research Impact Strategy that will grow impact literacy and create a positive impact culture. Faith will be discussing what research impact is, why it is important, and will provide practical advice on how to increase the potential impact of your own research.
As we are all aware, postgraduates are embarking on a multi-year journey with its fair shares of ups and downs. Stress can negatively impact postgraduate students’ health and in 2017 we bring you a yoga session and dinner as a way to bring you a new experience of how to alleviate stress in a positive fashion AGAIN. New to yoga? We’re here to introduce students to a healthy way to manage their stress levels. A yoga veteran? We’re here to provide you this chance to join fellow postgrads for this experience.
We also have limited guest tickets available, you are welcome to bring family and friends along.

PGSA WRITING RETREAT

The continuation of “Shut up and Write” for the PGSA member is happening on Thursday, From 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
PGSA will provide you with a comfortable, quiet place for you to get on with your research writing or regular studies. So, come down for the session and have a productive 3 hours of study.
Refreshments will be provided to keep your energy levels high and writing productively!
What you need to bring:
A laptop computer or other writing materials. A writing goal for the afternoon. What do you want to accomplish during your time with us?
Please Note: This is a “Shut up and Write” event…. Therefore, please refrain from talking or making any noise that could potentially disturb the concentration of other participants. Those uncooperative ones may be asked to leave the premises.
Get ready for the annual AMAZING RACE!! FMHS-PGSA will be holding an amazing race event on the 26th October 2017 4:30-6pm. There will be plenty of food and drinks for everyone that participates and great prizes to be won.

Interested in Innovation? But not sure where to start? The innovation group is where any postgraduate student interested in innovation can casually come, listen to a talk, and make friends with people with the same interest!
However, this session is a little bit more special.
This session is your chance to be hands-on and be involved and guided to the innovative culture.
Both PGSA and Velocity are recruiting for student volunteers for 2018.
If you wanted to volunteer to make a change but was not sure how to, this will make an excellent chance to find out what it actually mean from the people who already volunteered!
